Saint-Petersburg is Russia’s museum capital. The city boasts of more than 200 museums including world-famous Hermitage, Russian Museum, Peterhof, Pavlovsk, Tsarskoye Selo etc. There are also dozens of smaller museums which do deserve visitors’ attention.

St. Petersburg Biennale of Museum Design is a new project helping to see the museums from a different angle:

  • how do museums design their buildings making them comfortable for the visitors and functional for the collections?
  • how do museums choose particular design solutions for their permanent and temporary exhibitions, and what are their preferences based on?
  • how does contemporary museum design define museum’s image and character, and how does it help the museum to interact with its audience?
The Biennale’s program features exhibitions created by Russian and international designers, lectures by world-renowned architects and designers, master-classes and competitions for young designers, as well as many other events.
