The History of the Hermitage Reflected in its Showcases (Display of Displays)

Celebrating its 250th anniversary the Hermitage museum is for the first time opening the former Manege located under the Hanging Gardens of the Small Hermitage; during the Soviet years the area was used as a storage space. It is no coincidence that the first exhibition to be presented in the huge hall hidden deep in the museum is titled “The History of the Hermitage Reflected in its Showcases”.

Restoration and Rearrangement of the Classical Antiquities Galleries in the State Hermitage Museum

Since 1998 and up till present the Classical Antiquity Department of the Hermitage has been carrying out a program on rearranging its permanent exhibitions. Twenty galleries have undergone full interior restoration and exposition reconstruction. The key idea behind the whole program is to preserve the style and aesthetics of a 19th century museum and to provide a stylized neoclassical framework for the new permanent exhibitions at the New Hermitage building.
