Cultural and historical project “Peterhof Summer Residents”

On August 10, 2016, a new permanent display was opened in Alexandria Park Farmer’s Palace of the State Peterhof Museum. The new cultural and historical project “Peterhof Summer Residents” occupies 15 museum halls and invites guests to plunge into the atmosphere of summer holiday on the southern coast of the Gulf of Finland in the 19 th –beginning of the 20 th centuries. With the help of more than 300 museum objects curators of the exhibit tell a story of Russian summer holiday culture. Having a wide experience in innovative projects, the State Peterhof Museum was able to recreate a unique atmosphere of the countryside life at the turn of centuries using modern technologies.

In the second half of the 19 the century, the word “dacha” (summer house) came into wide use to describe vacation houses for urban families, and special holiday world had started to arise around an imperial residence in Peterhof. The exposition reflects the schedule of the countryside life: visitors of the “Peterhof Summer Residents” display will go upstairs to the veranda of a typical country house, come into an artist’s studio, visit aristocrat’s office , lady’s boudoir, kids’ playroom, and feel fun and joy of Peterhof summer, its aromas, tastes and sounds, as well as in the end – melancholy due to the inevitable approach of fall, and therefore the parting with Peterhof.
State Peterhof Museum created the cultural and historical project “Peterhof Summer Residents” in collaboration with the Show Consulting Studio of Scenography and Technology.
